Role-playing games<\/strong> are experiences built on creativity and character interpretation. They are more than just tabletop games<\/strong>\u2014they are opportunities to explore, imagine, and create adventures guided by a storyteller, where each player brings a character to life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, this form of entertainment<\/strong> has gained significant importance in the city of Guayaquil<\/strong>, Ecuador.<\/span><\/p>\n

Back in the 1990s, there were very few role-playing groups\u2014a reality we know from our own experience. However, with the rise of digital tools and streaming shows<\/strong> such as <\/span>Vampire: The Masquerade \u2013 L.A. by Night<\/i><\/strong>, led by Jason Carl<\/strong>, made that more people come together and create their own stories.<\/span><\/p>\n

But what is the real excitement behind this activity? It goes far beyond simply creating a character and rolling dice.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a gathering of friends<\/strong> who set aside their daily concerns to enjoy shared storytelling\u2014whether through fantasy adventures, horror tales<\/strong>, or countless other genres made possible by the versatility of role-playing games.<\/span><\/p>\n

To better understand this growing community, we share a few words from our players:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRole-playing came into my life during a time of many changes. I wanted to learn how to play, and when I finally did, it was love at first sight. After eight years of portraying my characters, I can say I explore aspects of my personality with my friends in a safe environment. For me, playing role-playing games\u2014whether <\/em><\/span>Dungeons & Dragons<\/span> or the different editions of <\/span>Vampire<\/span><\/em>\u2014is like living many lives in one, and I wouldn\u2019t trade it for anything.<\/em>\u201d <\/span>\u2014 Mishelle Mac\u00edas<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur group started with <\/em><\/span>Dungeons & Dragons<\/span>, which gained a lot of popularity thanks to shows like <\/span>Stranger Things<\/span> and the appearances in <\/span>The Big Bang Theory<\/span><\/em>. We\u2019ve played regularly ever since, and what we enjoy the most is the interaction\u2014the chaos when nothing goes as planned and we have to improvise. Personally, it has changed me a lot. It helped me come to know new groups. I used to be somewhat introverted, but through the game I\u2019ve developed my social skills, and that makes it even more meaningful.<\/em>\u201d <\/span>\u2014 Hern\u00e1n Monsalve<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy experience with role-playing games has always been positive. It\u2019s a space where I feel welcome and have a lot of fun. It\u2019s something I look forward to after every session, just to get to the next one and continue the story, to bring back the entity I created to life. At my table, we joke around, laugh, and enjoy each other\u2019s company. For me, it\u2019s a very entertaining and relaxing experience.<\/em>\u201d <\/span>\u2014 Eduardo Gaibor<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRole-playing is an important part of my lifestyle, as it\u2019s on my list of things to do every week\u2014and something I truly enjoy. Alongside activities like riding my motorcycle, going out for a drink, or watching movies, role-playing is almost non-negotiable. It even has its own fixed days, only canceled due to work. If money and work weren\u2019t necessities, I would spend even more time playing, and if I could someday generate income from this wonderful hobby, it would make my life much happier.<\/em>\u201d <\/span>\u2014 Alejandro Rodr\u00edguez<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can say that thanks to role-playing games, I developed my love for literature and reading. I started in my teenage years, and over time I built the habit of reading. I met many people, and I was always excited to play each session to see how my character would grow. That\u2019s what get me the most\u2014seeing where the story takes me with my group. Today, there is an abundance of information and a growing number of communities around the world who live and like sharing their stories and meaningful moments among friends.<\/span><\/p>\n
